Lila Shaffer

MACON - Lila H. Shaffer, age 86, went to be with her Lord on June 7. A memorial service will be held at 3P.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Ingleside Baptist Church, Macon with Dr. Timothy McCoy and Dr. Mark Hudgins officiating. Burial will be private. The family will greet friends in the Gathering Area of Ingleside Baptist Church following the memorial service. The family suggests that donations be made to Every Tribe Inc., 340 Wesley Circle, Macon, GA 31204.

Lila was born September 20, 1924 in Metter, Georgia to the late Hattie Johnson Hartley and George W. Hartley. She graduated from Metter High School, Brewton Parker College and Mercer University.

Lila was a member of Cherokee Heights Baptist Church for over forty years where she served as a Youth and Adult Bible teacher, Finance Chairperson, Trustee and in various other leadership positions. For the past decade, she enjoyed the fellowship at Ingleside Baptist.

After operating a very successful Kindergarten in Decatur, Georgia, she and her husband moved to Macon in 1962 where they built Shaffer Management Company into an organization of national recognition within the E.K. Williams system of small business consulting and accounting professionals. In 1982 she was listed in "Who's Who" for outstanding women in Georgia. She was a member and officer of the Macon Women's Club and the Pilot Club of Macon.

Lila was preceded in death by her husband Harry, a brother Lehmon W. Hartley and sisters, Avis and Galata Hartley. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon Shaffer of Lawrenceville, Janice and Dr. Wes Tanner of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Vicki and Ben Hinson of Macon; six grandchildren, Peyton McDaniel (Will) of Rocky Top, Brittany Camak (Cooper) of Roswell, Matthew Tanner (Amber) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shae Hinson (Katie) of Macon, Renee Gay (Bill) of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Kara Clark (Douglas) of Gaffney, S.C.; nine great grandbabies; one sister, Videtta Sale of Fayetteville; and many nieces and nephews.
