Lyla E. Gray

Lyla Evelyn Gray, born August 21, 1924 went to her heavenly home May 8, 2015. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at Ingleside United Methodist Church at 3187 Ridge Avenue, Macon, GA 31204, with burial in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 11, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon, GA 31204. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to Ingleside United Methodist Church at 3187 Ridge Avenue, Macon, GA 31204.

Lyla was born in Minnesota to the late E. A. and Marion Chester. She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, John A. Gray, her precious daughter, Bonnie Lee Shafer, and seven siblings. Her memory will be cherished by her surviving children; JoAnne and (Boma) Pennebaker, Juanita Rooks, Stanley and (Debbi) Gray, Stephanie and (Bert) Broussard, Walter and (Wanda) Cody, Larry Shafer; her thirteen grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and the many friends and extended family who loved her.

Lyla was a member of Southside United Methodist Church in Macon for many years where she was active in the Nellie Rainbow Circle. Most recently she was a member of Ingleside United Methodist Church in Macon. She was active in the Macon Chapter of the Eastern Star where she served one year as Worthy Matron. Her friends and family enjoyed the product of her passion for cooking and baking. She was a master at the art of crochet, and loved sharing her creations.
