

Margaret S. Rohde Gordon, 98, passed away on March 15, 2015 surrounded by her family. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Martha Bowman United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Steffen and Rev. John Bagwell officiating. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to service time at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made to Martha Bowman United Methodist Church, 500 Bass Road, Macon GA 31210.
Mrs. Gordon was born August 30, 1916 to the late Ollie Carpenter and Peter W. Stubbs. She graduated from Miller High School with honors, and Wesleyan College, Magna Cum Laude, in 1936, receiving her Master’s degree from Mercer University in 1956, also studying in France. She taught French, Latin, and English at Miller High School, Wesleyan College, Mercer University, Stratford Academy and Tattnall Square Academy. Mrs. Gordon volunteered multiple places including teaching English to Japanese ladies at Mulberry Outreach, the Hay House, the Sidney Lanier Cottage, and reading for the blind on Georgia Public Radio. She was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of Martha Bowman United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Charles S. Rohde and James Stewart Gordon.
The family would like to thank the staff of John Wesley Villas for the many kindnesses they have shown to their mother and family.
She is survived by her son, John C. (Gail) Rohde of Macon, daughter, Ellen Rohde (Jeff) Kahn of Lakeland, FL and Cashiers, NC, grandchildren, Jamie Rohde of Macon, Andrew Kahn of Cashiers, NC and Sarah Kahn of Lakeland, FL and Cashiers, NC.
