A native of Elberton, GA she resided in Athens for over 50 years where she was a member of the Athens First United Methodist Church. She retired from The University of Georgia in 1997, after 17 years of service. In August 2008, she and her husband moved to the Pinegate Retirement Community in Macon, GA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Harold Brooks. Survivors include daughters, Jane (Steve) Skalko of Macon, GA, Alice (Gene) Hart of Orlando, FL; son, Hal Brooks of Athens, GA; sister Jo (Julian) Bell of Monroe, NC; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home in Macon, GA on Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 5:30 until 7:30 PM. Visitation will also be held at Bernstein Funeral Home in Athens, GA on Sunday, May 17, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM. A private family graveside service will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Hills United Methodist Church, 1217 Forest Hill Road, Macon, GA 31210, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
