Myrtle A. Chambers

A Celebration of life service for Myrtle Abernathy Chambers who passed away February 6, 2018 will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00 am in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon. Burial will be private in the City Cemetery in Forsyth, Georgia. Rev. Joel Pritchard of Macon, Georgia will officiate.

Mrs. Chambers was born August 30, 1921 to the late Alva Lee and Eva Sharp Abernathy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Emmett C. Chambers; her daughter, Edith Chambers Morris of Pawley's Island, South Carolina; her brother, John A. Abernathy of Forsyth, Georgia; sisters, Minnie Belle Godfrey of Macon, Georgia, and Velma A. Brooks of Decatur, Georgia; son-in-law, John Waters; grandson, Rob Feldman of Key West, Florida and granddaughter, DeeDee Waters Bennett of Athens, Georgia.

Mrs. Chambers is survived by two daughters Eva C. Feldman (Bob) of Key West, Florida and Debbie C. Waters of Athens, Georgia; grandchildren, Melanie Morris of Rome, Georgia, Matt Morris of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Kevin Waters (Heather) of Bishop, Georgia, and Tap Bennett of Athens, Georgia, and four great-grandchildren. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Excelle Chambers of Macon, Georgia and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Chambers was a member of Tattnall Square Baptist Church, Dorcas Sunday School Class and Joyseekers. She was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Forsyth, Ga., where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class, Merry Hearts, and WMU. Mrs. Chambers was active in many community services: Meals on Wheels, Junior Woman’s Club and a Pink Lady at the Monroe County Hospital. She was chosen Mother and Homemaker of the Year by the Junior Woman’s Club. Mrs. Chambers was co-owner of Your Grocery Co. where she worked and she later worked at Macy’s.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Kindred Hospice of Athens, Georgia or Milledge Avenue Baptist Church in Athens.
