Bishop Nathaniel Balthrop, 78, went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 20, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Friday at the Greater Overcoming Church of God. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. Bishop J. L. Cotton will officiate. The family will greet friends from 5 until 6 pm Thursday at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Bishop Balthrop was born in Spring Hope, NC and was retired from Brown & Williamson. He was a United States Army veteran and was the son of the late Charlie Balthrop. Bishop Balthrop was a member of the City of David Church and was volunteer chaplain with the Macon Transition Center.
Bishop Balthrop is survived by his wife, Earline Balthrop of Macon; children, Nathaniel E. (Kathy) Balthrop, Darlene Balthrop, Vincent (Phyllis) Balthrop of Petersburg, VA, Phyllis Balthrop, Rose Briggs, Tracey Balthrop, LaTasha Balthrop (Rendell Bland), Marcos (Portia) Balthrop of Macon, Peter (Donna) Balthrop of Winston-Salem, NC; mother, Lourenta Balthrop of Petersburg, VA, 33 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janice Bowden, Cora Balthrop, and Beverly Walker; brothers, Johnny Balthrop, Lin (Helen) Balthrop, and Bill Ray Balthrop; in-laws, Rita (Herman) Epps, Clarence (Cheryl) Terry, Laura Reid, Ernest Jones and Denise Jones; numerous nieces & nephews and cousins.
