Paige Claxton Riley of Macon, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, April 6, 2026. She was born to M.V. Buren and Tiny Moore Claxton on May 30, 1940, in Douglas, Georgia. Visitation will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, from 5 - 7 PM at Snow's Funeral Home at Macon Memorial Park & Cemetery, with graveside services Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church in Kite, Georgia with her nephew, Elder Bill Torrance officiating.
Paige lived many places including Kite, Georgia, Atlanta, Georgia, Montgomery, Alabama, Mexia, Texas, and for the last 49 years in Macon, Georgia. She was a lifelong learner and spent 48 years in education as a teacher and counselor. A 1958 graduate of Wrightsville High School, she played girls basketball, wrote for the paper, and was president of the Beta Club. In 1961 she graduated from Tift College with a degree in Early Childhood Education and was the Editor of the Campus Quill. Paige then went on to pursue her Masters and Specialist in Education degrees at Georgia College and State University and Fort Valley State University. Her teaching career spanned Georgia, Alabama and Texas, finishing up in Gray, Georgia and at Morgan Elementary School and Rosa Taylor Elementary School in Macon, Georgia. She touched many lives through her years as an educator, counselor, and mentor to young teachers. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Educator honor society and for many years never missed a meeting or social. Paige was an incredible teacher, lending her knowledge and expertise not only to students but to her children, grandchildren, and all who knew and loved her.
She was an active member at Vineville Baptist Church, her Sunday School class, and the XYZ group. Paige was always known to be “put together” when going out and especially known for her vast collection of clip-on earrings. She took pride in her expert penmanship and upholding the lost art of beautiful cursive writing. In retirement she enjoyed time with family, and traveling with Bobby to many destinations ranging from Alaska to New England, to cruising through Europe. She never turned down a good trip or a chance to experience new things. She loved her family and the time she was able to spend with them and on the phone with those far away.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Robert “Bobby” Eugene Riley, her parents, her sister Beth Claxton Eckman, sister-in-law Anne Riley, sister-in-law and husband Shirley Riley Mixon and Billy Mixon, and brother-in-law Pete Carter.
Paige Claxton Riley is survived by children; Jeff and Catherine Riley of Johns Creek, Georgia, and Jeremy and Kristi Riley of Macon, Georgia, grandchildren; Allison and Spencer Borison of New York City, New York, Jill Riley of San Francisco, California, and Luke Riley of Charlotte, North Carolina, sisters; Jane Claxton Carter of Dry Branch, Georgia and Linda Claxton of Macon, Georgia and brother-in-law Paul Riley of Macon, Georgia and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
As expressed by her grandchildren, through her example Paige taught us patience, and the importance of attention to detail. She taught us that having goals for yourself is a way to survive through grief and keep moving forward. She taught us that continuous learning is how you keep your brain sharp. She taught us love - for Boston terriers, flowers, and above all each other. Paige was an inspiring, intelligent, caring, and strong woman. She will be dearly missed by all who have known her.
The family may be contacted at the family residence. Anyone wishing to send donations may do so in her name to Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church.
