MACON, GA - Walter Jerry Howard, age 99, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, loved and respected by all who knew him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2P.M. in the chapel of Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, from 1:00 P.M. to service time. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scottish Rites Children's Hospital, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219-3924.
Born September 10, 1912, in Vienna, GA, he graduated from Lanier High School for Boys in Macon, GA. He became a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Then he traveled the world with Hess Oil Company as an oil refinery production manager until 83. After retirement, he volunteered as an engineer at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He retired at age 95, and returned to his home town of Macon, where he continued to quietly care for others in need.
He is predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Flura Dixon Howard and his two brothers, Lewis Howard of Cordele, GA, and Henry Leroy Howard of Corpus Christi, TX, and later Macon, GA. -He is survived by his younger sister, Grace Howard Mercer and younger brother, Frank Edwin Howard, both of Macon; and five nephews and three nieces.
