Born on Feb. 28, 1942, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Brigette was the second of eight children born to Elliot and Pearl (née Taylor) Clement. In the early 1960s, she immigrated to New York, where she later met and married her beloved husband, the late Alfred Cole Henry, in 1972. Together, they welcomed their daughter, Melissa Emma, and made their home in Marblehead. A resident of Marblehead for more than 50 years, Brigette cherished the charm and coastal beauty of the community she proudly called home.
Education was a cornerstone of Brigette’s life and career. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Boston State College (now the University of Massachusetts Boston) and a master’s degree from Suffolk University. Brigette enjoyed a distinguished career in human resources, serving with the Office of Thrift Supervision, a bureau within the United States Treasury Department. She later retired in 2012 as director of human resources for the Neighborhood House Charter School. In recognition of her professional impact, Brigette was honored by the Department of Labor for her significant contributions to O*NET, a comprehensive HR database and resource platform.
Deeply committed to service, Brigette served on the boards of the Massachusetts Bay Self-Insurance Group, the Crispus Attucks Children’s Center and the Boston Children’s Museum. She was also an active member and leader within The Links, Incorporated; the Coalition of 100 Black Women; and Jack and Jill of America — all organizations to which she dedicated many years of meaningful service.
Brigette was a devoted wife to Al and a proud, loving mother to Melissa. Above all else, she found her greatest joy in being a doting grandmother to Michael. When she wasn’t traveling around the world, she could be found at the park, bowling, playing games or enjoying ice cream with her grandson. She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Henry Menard; her grandson, Michael Henry Menard; her siblings, Claudette Clement, Brian Clement and Keith Clement; and a host of loving family members and dear friends.
A visitation and viewing for family and close friends will be held at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm St. For details regarding the services please contact [email protected].
