Christine H Sherrill

Christine was born in Pensacola and spent her childhood in North Hill. She was an alumna of St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, Va., and Holton-Arms Junior College in Washington, D.C. Following her graduation, she moved to Boston, where she met her future husband, Charles Hitchcock Sherrill. They were married at Christ Church in Pensacola on Sept. 14, 1963. Together, they resided in Beverly Farms, Mass., until her passing.

Throughout her life, Christine was an advocate for those in need. She mounted a successful campaign to save the Beverly Farms Library from closure, she attended candlelight vigils in support of human rights. she served on the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Beverly Farms, and she led a team that created an extensive collection of murals for the children of the church's Sunday School.

Those who believe that some things happen for reason will note that Christine passed away on the French day of independence, a day in which millions of individuals raised a glass of champagne in celebration of those, like Christine, who have lived a life guided by the spirit of independence, justice and joy.

Christine is survived by her husband, Charles Hitchcock Sherrill; her son, Christopher G. Sherrill of Boston; her brothers, Ashton Hayward Jr. and James D. Hayward, and her sister, Nikki Hayward Wiltshire, all of Pensacola; and 10 nieces and nephews.

Burial will be at Bayview Cemetery in Pensacola. Services will be private.
