Dr. Edmund F. Goolsby passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 30th at the age of 65. Edmund, more commonly known as Ned, was the beloved husband of Gail Hazeltine Goolsby. They had shared a life together for 49 years, recently celebrating their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Beloved son of Marjorie L. Goolsby, Ned was born March 16th, 1956 in Marblehead.
He graduated with a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (class of 1979) before attending Northwestern University School of Dental Medicine. After receiving his DDS in 1983, he settled with his family in Ipswich, Massachusetts where he built his own practice and served the community for over 30 years. Ned was a leader in the Ipswich community both personally and professionally. He coached many youth sports teams over the years and spent most of his sons’ formative years attending their tournaments and games.
Ned and Gail returned to Marblehead in 2007 settling in the shipyard neighborhood where Ned grew up. Since retiring in 2016, Ned enjoyed playing golf with his friends both locally and in Naples, Florida where he kept a second home. He loved spending time with his family and cherished the simple things in life such as watching a Red Sox game, going out on the boat, or working in his yard. He was so proud of his three successful sons and the families they have built over the recent years. No one loved their family more than Ned. His happiest times were spent with his three boys, their families and Gail when they were all together.
Ned was predeceased by his mother Marjorie. He is survived by his loving wife Gail and his three sons -- Reid and wife Diana of Denver, Trevor and wife Kerri of Marblehead, and Alec and wife Sarah, also of Marblehead. Ned, or “Grampy”, also leaves 8 grandchildren — Mason, Camila, Emily, Vera, Hannah, Leo, Charlotte and Grant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday December 10th at 11:00 AM at Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Avenue, in Marblehead. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday December 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home in Marblehead. Burial will be held at Waterside Cemetery.
