

Born in Marblehead on December 16, 1928, Edward was the son of the late William H. and Hattie (Horne) Goodwin. After graduating from Marblehead High School in 1946, he served 2 years in the Navy, and upon his honorable discharge earned his civil engineering degree from Northeastern University.
While at Northeastern, Edward worked as a surveyor for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad. He worked briefly as an engineer for the town of Marblehead prior to a 32 year career as a structural engineer with the First Coast Guard District in Boston. After his retirement from the Coast Guard, Edward was an independent land surveyor and later worked on the waterfront as an employee of Marblehead Marine Construction. His passions included hunting, fishing, woodworking, and tending his extensive fruit and vegetable gardens.
In addition to his wife Norma, Edward is survived by his four children, William and his wife Elizabeth of Middletown, Rhode Island, Vaughn and his wife Karyn of Hope, Maine, Rebecca Hastings and her husband Robert, Jr. of Marblehead, and Christina Goodwin and her husband David Brady of Rockport; eight grandchildren, Sara McCurry and her husband Lt. Colonel Michael C. McCurry, Christina M. Goodwin, Thomas Goodwin, Hannah Goodwin, Rachel Hastings, Sarah Hastings, Morgan Brady, and Finn Brady; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Margery Brown and her husband Frank, his brother William H. Goodwin II, his sister Janice Gallagher and her husband Daniel, his sister Linda Balser and her husband Donald, and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, 142 Elm Street, Marblehead on Thursday, April 21 from 4-7PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. A graveside service with honors in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Massachusetts Audubon Society Development Office, 208 South Great Road, Lincoln, MA 01773.
