

Nancy C. O’Brien, 81, of Peabody, died peacefully September 20, 2011 at the Kaplan House in Danvers surrounded by her family following a long illness. She was born August 4, 1930 in Beverly and was the daughter of the late Robert and Mabel (Batchelder) Chittick Jr. She was also predeceased by her brothers; Gordon, Robert, and Donald Chittick.
Mrs. O’Brien was raised in Hamilton, attended the Hamilton schools and was a graduate of the University of Southern Maine. She was married to her beloved husband Arthur D. O’Brien for 55 years spending most of their life on the North Shore of Massachusetts with their three children.
She was a loving Mother who worked at the Brookwood School for 27 years as a Teacher, Head of the Lower School and Director of Admissions. She made a tremendous impact on her many students who always appreciated her commitment to their educational and personal development. She found tremendous enjoyment from her close knit family and friends. She enjoyed reading, shopping, cooking, and entertaining. Nancy touched many with her incredible generosity, humor, and zest for living.
After retirement, she relocated with Arthur to Bonita Springs, Florida and continued to travel, play golf, and enjoy life before moving back to the North Shore.
Family Members include her husband, Arthur O’Brien, her three children; Deborah May and her husband Ron of Peabody; Eric O’Brien and his wife Nena of Bedford, NH; Kathleen Daly and her husband Pat of Hamilton; six grandchildren: Joshua Lynch and his wife Carly, Jennifer Lynch, Daniel O’Brien, Cara, Patrick, and Aidan Daly; 2 great grand children; Kayla and Dylan Lynch; her nephew William Chittick.
The family wishes to thank the teams at the Brooksby Medical Center, Brooksby Home Support, and The Hospice of the North Shore for their support.
Burial will be private. A memorial service will be offered at the Brooksby Village Chapel, 300 Brooksby Village Drive, McIntosh Building, Peabody on October 19th at 9:30 AM to celebrate her life with a reception to follow. Contributions may be made in her memory to The Brooksby Benevolent Care Fund by sending to the Brooksby Benevolent Care Fund, Attention Philanthropy Department at 200 Brooksby Village Drive, Peabody, Ma 01960.
