
As a boy growing up in Milford, Mass he was a good student and studied Italian. Norry was an avid musician and lead a dance band in high school during the 2nd World War. Graduating Milford High at the age of 16, Norry attended the Boston Conservatory of Music for two years. He subsequently attained his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Boston University before entering the Army. In the Army he specialized in language translation and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War to interpret Chinese military aircraft broadcasts.
His first job was to teach Science at the elementary school in Templeton, Mass. After attaining his Master’s Degree in Education Norry became a school Principal in Pembroke, Mass and later was hired as an Elementary School Principal in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. In 1968 Norry was hired by the Town of
Swampscott Mass. He served as Principal of the Machon and Stanley Elementary Schools until his retirement.
In retirement Norry worked as a Student Teacher Advisor for Salem State College. He loved to listen to
classical music & opera. He also enjoyed playing clarinet in the Italian Colonial Band and the Jimmy Fund Band. During his 70’s and 80’s Norry traveled with his wife Joan to Italy 14 times and enjoyed speaking with the locals in Italian.
Norry Lessard is survived by his wife, Joan; sons, Mark, Carl, and Paul; granddaughters, Sophia and Kaity; great-grandsons, Graham and Harris, his brother, John and cousins, Carol and Dennis.
