MARBLEHEAD - Priscilla Ann Stocker (Hawkes), age 92, of Marblehead, passed away suddenly on December 28, 2021. She was the beloved wife of John Robert Stocker with whom she shared 47 years of marriage. In later years Priscilla married the late Philip Rathbun of Beverly and they made their home in Marblehead.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Anna (Snow) Hawkes and sister to Sally Jackson (Hawkes) and the late Madge Pizzano (Hawkes), Davis, Dana, and Andrew Hawkes.
Priscilla was a devoted mother of Kent Stocker, Christopher Stocker and wife Sharon (Crisp), Catherine Michaud (Stocker) and husband Donald. She was the cherished grandmother of Lloyd Michaud and wife Sarah (LaRose), Julie Michaud and partner Robert Taylor, Amanda Gay (Economou) and husband Ryan, and Robert Stocker. Priscilla was fortunate to spend her final years with great grandchildren Natalaya Michaud and Bronson Gay.
A lifelong Marbleheader, born at the Mary Alley Hospital on Washington Street, Priscilla was raised in the “Hawkes House,” also on Washington Street, which was the family home for several generations. She graduated from Marblehead High School in the class of 1947. Over the years, Priscilla worked at Abby May’s Candy, New England Telephone Co, Hood Sailmakers, and cared for the elderly in the community. She also loved working with her husband Robert machining prototypes in their basement shop on Dunn’s Lane. Priscilla was a dedicated member of the Marblehead Historical Society, Harbor Women, Council on Aging, the SOS club, and the Old North Church. She enjoyed gardening, weeding, sewing, knitting, quilting and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren at every age.
When her children were young, Priscilla’s home was the epicenter of the neighborhood where her baked goods (especially peanut butter fudge) were a favorite and the large “school” slide in her backyard was in frequent use. She was a self taught hairdresser who offered haircuts in her kitchen into her 90’s. She spent summer vacations at Sand Pond and Square Pond in Maine. She enjoyed coffee and conversation with all walks of life, encouraged their stories, and always saw the best in people.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 15th at 11:30 a.m. in the Dr. Arland A. Dirlam Chapel at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead.
