R. Donald Whitney, 68, of Marblehead, formerly of North Adams, passed away at Salem Hospital on May 31, 2011. He was the former husband of Laurel Whitney of Marblehead. Born in North Adams, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Fee) Whitney.
He was employed as director of patient financial services at Salem Hospital, Carney Hospital in Boston, and director of patient accounts for North Adams Hospital. Don served a term as City Counselor in North Adams and was Past President of Massachusetts Association Patient Account Management.
He is survived by four sons, Michael Whitney and his children, Ethan, Emily, Sarah, and the late Benjamin and Matthew, Christopher Whitney and his children, Daniel, Connor, and Noah, Brandon Whitney, and Garrett Whitney. He also leaves two brothers, John “Jack” Whitney, and Alan Whitney.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at the Gerry 5 Veteran Fireman’s Association, 210 Beacon Street, Marblehead on Sunday, June 12 at 3PM. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell Funeral Home, Marblehead.
