

MARBLEHEAD - Robert “Bob” Edward Vick, age 95, of Marblehead, passed away on January 3, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Alice E. Vick with whom he shared 36 years of marriage prior to her passing in 1991.
Born in Illinois, Bob was the son of the late Claude E. and Margaret (Pyatt) Vick.
He was the devoted father of Bob, and Tom and his wife, Wendy; the grandfather of Marialicia and Isabella, and Toby and his wife, Brigid; the great-grandfather of Ceferina Vick, and the dear brother of the late Marion Febus of Illinois. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
He grew up in Springfield, Illinois. As a child, his father introduced him to Civil War veterans. Bob graduated from Springfield High School with the class of 1944. He served with the Army Air Corps 4th Rescue Squadron based on Saipan, Tinian and Guam and flew air/sea rescue missions on the B-17 in the Pacific during World War II. After his service, he graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in architecture. He drove to Cheyenne, Wyoming, and picked up his future wife, Alice, a United Airlines flight attendant. They drove back and were married on her father’s Illinois farm in 1955. Bob also sailed in the Star Class World Championships in Chicago in 1963. Bob accepted the position as Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodges and Restaurants regional architect and the family moved to Bay Village, Ohio. Bob and Alice moved to Marblehead where they raised their children after he was promoted to national architect/project manager at Howard Johnson’s corporate headquarters. He later started and managed his own business, Robert E. Vick and Associates, until he retired in 2020. He participated in his last continuing professional education class in 2019. He cherished his time creating adventures and experiences with family and friends that created lifetime memories for all to remember.
A graveside service with military honors for Robert will be held Monday, January 10, 2022, at 11 am at Waterside Cemetery. Attendees will gather inside the gate at Waterside Cemetery at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Marblehead Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2005, 321 West Shore Drive, Marblehead, MA 01945.
