

He was born Dec. 20, 1933, in Marengo, to Erwin and Frances (Bloedorn) Koplin. On Feb. 27, 1960, he married Evelyn Busse in Marengo.
He worked at Marengo Steel Products Inc. for over 35 years, retiring in 1995.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of American Legion Post No. 77 in Belvidere.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He also enjoyed traveling, especially train and bus trips. His greatest joy in life after retiring was spending time with his granddaughters, P.J. and Liver.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn; his children, Luann (Ron) Esser of Loves Park and Donald J. Koplin of Marengo; his granddaughters, Patience and Olivia Esser; his sisters, Lucille Boettcher of Belvidere and Betty (Jack) Sorensen of Woodstock; his brothers, Harold (Gloria) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Gerald (Linda), Dennis (Barb) and Robert (Joyce) of Marengo; his brother-in-law, Stanley Busse of Marengo; his sister-in-law, Catherine Busse, of Marengo; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley Osterberg; his father-in-law, Walter Busse; his mother-in-law, Anna Busse; his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Osterberg and Wilbert Boettcher; and his sisters-in-law, Darlene Busse and Berniece Busse.
The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Zion Lutheran Church, 408 E. Jackson St., Marengo. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Monday, Sept. 20, at the church. Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to American Legion Post No. 77 to benefit the troops.
