Herb was born February 14, 1928 in Arlington Heights to Gerhard and Frieda Vehrs. In 1959 he married Marylin Thielenhouse.
Herb was a lifelong farmer. He farmed in Arlington Heights before moving to Marengo in 1970. He enjoyed spending time with family and dancing. He was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marengo.
He is survived by his children, Kevin (Debbie), Randy (Kim), Herb (Laura), Dean (Tirsa), Melody (Tim) Winter and Rick (Carla); 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Herb was preceded in death by his loving wife and best friend, Marylin; his parents; daughter, Linda; grandson Joshua; and his siblings, Bernice Lemke, Harold Vehrs, Robert Vehrs, Valerie Oquist, and Richard Vehrs.
Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, February 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, 412 Jackson St, Marengo. Visitation will continue Tuesday, February 25 from 9 a.m. until time of service at 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in Memory Gardens, Arlington Heights.
