Lilas Jean Beebe

She was born November 19, 1932 in Belvidere to Vernon and Marie (Druck) Lowe. She graduated from Marengo High School in 1950 and married Harold Beebe on August 16, 1953. After raising her three children, she worked at Marengo High School and later as a bank teller at the Marengo State Bank, now BMO Harris Bank. She was very active at First Baptist Church in Marengo, singing in the church choir. She enjoyed spending winters in The Villages in Florida, a trip with her husband to the Holy Land, doing crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite tv programs: Diagnosis Murder, the Avengers, and Matlock.

She is survived by her children, Jan (Richard) Whitsitt, Jo Ellen Martinson, and Jack (Susan Mayer) Beebe; her grandchildren, Jackie (Jason) Dover, Kimberly (fiancé Clint Burkhart) Whitsitt, Robin (Matt) Fairbanks, and Sam Beebe; her great-grandchildren, Jillian, Jessica, and Joseph Dover; her nephew, Joe Winkelman Sr.; and many brothers- and sisters –in-law and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Vernon and Marie Lowe; Her husband’s parents, Harry and Oleda Beebe; her sister, Marialyce Winkelman; her brother, Vernon Lowe Jr.; and her nephew, John Winkelman.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Rosewood Care Center and Northern Illinois Hospice, and especially Lilas’s dear nurse, LeAnne.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18 from 2pm to 6pm at Marengo-Union Funeral Home, 505 E. Grant Hwy., Marengo. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19 at 11am at First Baptist Church, 320 E. Washington St., Marengo. Burial will follow in Marengo City Cemetery.
