William C. Piper, age 91, of Marengo, Illinois passed away on Friday, April 19, 2024.
Bill was born October 4, 1932 in Clay Center, KS to Warren and Amy (Conrow) Piper. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1955. In May of 1956 he joined the United States Air Force where he flew the F-86 and B-52. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and had a successful 26 year career with American Airlines as a pilot. On December 7, 1957 Bill married Clara Alice Duffey.
When he wasn't flying, Bill loved to work in his gardens and yard. He also enjoyed woodworking. For many years, Bill was very active with Marengo United Methodist Church. He served on many committees and even mowed the grass. Bill was a family man, he loved any time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara; his children, Linda (John) Kleindienst, Bruce (Lori) Piper, and Sheryl (Mark) Andrews; his grandchildren, Aaron (Liza) Piper, Adam (Courtney) Piper, Isaiah (Keza) Andrews, Aidan Andrews, Elijah (Haley) Andrews, and Lydia Andrews; nine great-grandchildren; his sisters, Marian (Dick) Shimer and Elaine (Glenn) Osborne; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Warren (Cynthia) Piper.
There will be a visitation from 10am to Noon on Saturday, April 27 at Marengo First Assembly of God, 22817 W Grant Hwy, Marengo. The service will follow at Noon.
Interment will be in Marengo City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Marengo First Assembly of God, Transitions Hospice, or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's.
