Chris grew up surrounded by her father Anton, mother Francziska, brothers Leo and Stanley and cousin Benny in a Chicago polish neighborhood. She was the youngest of the 3 children and was doted on by her older brothers. She attended Catholic grade and high school. One week out of high school, she met her husband Thomas Binder on a blind date. They married 2 years later after Tom’s return from army duty. After he won her heart, she was truly devoted to him.
Tom and Chris lived in Chicago surrounded by their 3 children, family and friends as a homemaker until 1970 when her husband Tom was transferred to Florida by his long-time employer Motorola. They have called Coconut Creek their home for many years.
Chris was a do-er. If you wanted something done everyone knew Chris would help take care of it! She had active roles in the Coconut Creek Women’s Club and Garden Club, Coral Springs and Fort Lauderdale Orchid Societies serving on various committees. Chris was blessed with a green thumb and always knew the tricks for growing orchids or how to transplant flowers. In fact, her expertise in plants and orchids garnished her several articles in the local papers. She was also provided a proclamation in 2020 from the Coconut Creek Women’s Club for 50 years of service. She was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and friend. She and Tom traveled most parts of the world and were blessed with many unique experiences. She would keep herself busy gardening, cooking or involved in some other crafty hobby. Most will fondly remember Chris for her beautiful smile, her great cooking and her beautiful orchids and plants. Her orchids won many first-place ribbons.
Chris is survived by her loving children Deborah Covert and her husband Kirk, Corinne Betkowski and husband Doug, Keith Binder and wife Margarita, Grandchildren Danny Betkowski, Timmy Betkowski and wife Taylor, Kandra Covert and Derek Covert; her nieces and nephews Stanley Kijek, Ginny Clark, Denise Majewski and Maxine Sims, and sister-in-law Delores Kijek and her many close friends from the Creek. She will be greatly missed by all.
