The Lord called home James (Jim) Edward Park on Saturday, November 19th, 2016. He was born on August 2nd, 1944 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. At the age of 7, his parents, James H. Park and Leona (Fenchel) moved to Hialeah, Florida where the family owned and operated the Breezeway Motel. Jim graduated from Hialeah High School and earned his Associate of Arts degree from Miami Dade College. While he was in college he worked part-time at Zayers department store where he met the love of his life, Vivian Evonne Miller. They recently celebrated 51 years of marriage.
He was a wonderful father to Lynette (Bill Jacobs) and Michelle (Chris Wainwright). He loved his son-in-laws as if they were his own sons. He was blessed with many grandchildren who he loved very much; Ashley Jacobs, Alexandrea McGlynn, Ashley McGlynn, Michael & Sarah McGlynn, Liam Jacobs, and Garette Wainwright. Dad enjoyed spending time with family cruising, relaxing at the beach and playing golf.
After graduation, Jim joined Delta Airlines where his career spanned 36 years of service. He was hired as a Ramp Agent and worked his way up to Customer Service Supervisor at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport. He & Vivian have lived in the same house in Margate for the past 43 years. Dad was active in the Hollywood Optimists Youth Football Organization where his daughters and many local children played football or cheered. He was a familiar face at all of Lynette & Michelle’s events.
Dad was an avid car lover. During his late teenage years, he loved to race cars in Hialeah. He enjoyed attending and watching Nascar. His favorite driver was the late Dale Earnhart, Sr. You could find him on Saturdays watching the latest race. Besides Nascar, he enjoyed football, bowling, and fishing.
In 1986, Dad became a Mason of the NorMi lodge. His masonic career culminated as the Personal Representative of the Miami, Florida Scottish Rite. As a Mason, he made lasting and loving friendships with many. He volunteered with his dear friend, Bill Barlow, to raise funds for many charities by performing the skit “Who’s on first?”
He was instrumental in the renovation of the Scottish Rite Temple in Miami, Florida. As a part of the renovation, Dad was passionate about adding an elevator so all could have access to the beautiful building for fine arts performances and special events. This will be an everlasting legacy of all of his hard work and dedication.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 11am at All Saints Lutheran Church, 7875 W. McNab Road, Tamarac, Florida 33321.
