Born in Brooklyn, New York, Jerry was the youngest sibling of five children. As a young adult, he already showed signs of being a proud entrepreneur. Alongside his brother, Jerry became the co-owner of Joe & Jerry's Sandwich Shop located on the army base in Brooklyn, NY. Also in Brooklyn, Jerry opened his first coin shop which then would kick-start his life-long passion of coin collecting. His final business, Jayem Coins & Jewelry, successfully built on this interest, allowing for an early retirement.
In 1950, he married his wife, Maryanne Panettiere, and went on to have three daughters, Patricia, Jacqueline, and Diane. Jerry put family first, always, and was a dedicated father who created and upheld time-honored family traditions. As his family grew, he became a loving Grandfather to eight grandchildren (Gregg Lopapa, Eric Lopapa, Michelle Ilardi (husband, Anthony Ilardi), Lauren Clemente (husband, Michael Clemente), Michael Hidalgo, Joseph Belcastro, Nardina Belcastro, and Garrett Belcastro. The family enjoyed spending countless holidays and family vacations together, including summers at the Jersey Shore. Jerry was thrilled to be called Great-Grandpa to his eight great-grandchildren, Gavin, Gia, Emelyn, Landon, Jolie, Kai, Ella, and Lia. Jerry was a strong, kind, funny, and supportive family man. His knowledge, guidance, and amusing stories were the foundation of his family. His signature whistle could be affectionately recognized by all who knew him.
Jerry was a skilled golfer and tennis player, along with being a poker enthusiast. He spent most of his retirement in South Florida, enjoying these activities while trying out new recipes in his free time. Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Maryanne, his parents and siblings, and his beloved son-in law, Greg Lopapa. He leaves behind his devoted children, Patricia Lopapa-Silvers, Barry Silvers, Jacqueline Hidalgo, Louis Hidalgo, and Diane Montana along with his grandchildren mentioned above. No services will be held at this time, however, Jerry will be laid to rest beside his wife in Resurrection Cemetery, Staten Island, New York.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kraeermargate.com for the Montana family.
