

Contino, Joseph “Peno” passed away on October 7, 2015 in Pompano Beach. He was born on October 24, 1926 in Brooklyn NY. He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946 on the USS Leray Wilson during World War II as a Shipfitter Third Class USNR. He married the late Mary Contino and we celebrate their reunion in heaven. He worked as a construction foreman and for the NY Dept of Environmental Protection until he retired and moved to Coconut Creek. He was a member of the 4th Degree and a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus at St Vincent in Margate. He was an active member, officer, and past president of the Italian American Club of Coconut Creek, the Broward Council of Italian American clubs, and the Florida Federation of Italian American clubs. He was instrumental in the installation and dedication of the Christopher Columbus statue in Port Everglades. He was member of the Elks Lodge of Pompano Beach. Joe is predeceased by his brothers, Pete, Angelo, and Willie. He is survived by his sisters, Tessie and Mary, his sons, Vito and wife, Ellen and Joseph Jr, and wife, Marie, daughter, Carmela and husband, Brian, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life and viewing will be held at Kraeer Funeral home 1 N State Road 7 Margate FL 33063 on Saturday October 10, 2015 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. He will be buried with the love of his life at St Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale NY.
