Marion is survived by her children, Deborah Lee Chamberlin and Arthur Everett Chamberlin of Florida and her sister Frances Alexander of New York. She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur John Chamberlin in 1997. She has two grandchildren, Christina and Jessica Chamberlin.
Marion was born on August 24, 1937 in Paterson, New Jersey to Everett Fisher and Henrietta Priscella Siersema Fisher, both originally from Netherlands. She married Arthur John Chamberlin in 1957 in New Jersey and moved to Florida the same year.
She worked in a variety of positions over the years including service order clerk for New Jersey Telephone and Southern Bell, as well as secretary for Powell Brothers Construction. She worked with her husband Arthur’s company, A.E. Drafting Service as a draftsperson, secretary and bookkeeper. She had her own business in the 1970s as a bookkeeper for multiple firms, working closely with a CPA. Marion began working as a Pension and Benefits Administrator in 1976 for Holbrook, Downey and Schlageter, remaining with the company when it was sold to Wolper Ross Ingham & Co and later Caribbean Pension Consultants, remaining there until she retired.
After retiring she began volunteering for Senior Volunteer Services (Impact Broward) and was quickly hired by them to manage their database. Instead of spending a leisurely retirement Marion became even more involved as the President of her Homeowners Association, repeatedly reelected. She was very active in The Women’s Club of Coconut Creek, including organizing and publicizing events, creating the newsletter, and building their website.
Debbie remembers her for being brilliant, kind, and busy doing things she loved. She loved reading and researching anything and everything, passing the research addiction on. A favorite memory of Debbie’s is being taught to read with phonics comics cut out from the newspaper and being pasted into a photo album. Marion was an early user of computers, and had one of the early Apple computers before the mouse was even created. Marion regularly helped Debbie with her booth at anime and comic book conventions, making friends with fellow vendors and costumed customers.
Art remembers her for being a loving mom and always being full of energy. She loved tending to her butterfly garden and was always doing something to her home. I know she was proud of the direction my life went both business and personal, and loved spoiling her grandchildren. She never visited without bringing some sort of gift for them. Retirement didn’t slow her down one bit and she loved to talk about her busy life. She was creative, computer savvy, and enjoyed researching the history of our family. One of my favorite pictures of mom is of her in the 1970’s, standing in our carport holding up a huge Kingfish that she had caught with dad. She was wearing perfect 70’s clothes and had her blonde hair up tall. I also will remember her for her collections. It was always easy picking a gift for her as you just had to help her grow her cat or doll collection. And speaking of cats…….
A gathering to celebrate her life will be on Sunday, October 26, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at The Hammocks Club House, 4708 Satinwood Trail, Coconut Creek, FL 33066. In lieu of flowers, please send tax-deductible donations in Marion’s name to The Women’s Club of Coconut Creek, 4500 Cedarhill Road, Coconut Creek, FL 33066 to be used for their scholarship fund.
