

James Harold Bell, age 93, of Marietta, GA, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away July 9, 2015. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, GA. He is preceded in by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Carter Bell.
Harold was the son of Homer Parks Bell and Myrtie Turner Bell, born October 9, 1921 in Jefferson, Georgia. At an early age, he and his family moved to the Lakewood Heights neighborhood of Atlanta, where he attended Lakewood Grammar School and graduated from Fulton High School. He was an outstanding first baseman and batter for the Fulton High baseball team. He played some semi-pro baseball after graduation and always loved the game. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII at Navy bases in Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, Kaneohe Bay, HI and Moffett Field, CA. He achieved the rank of Aviation Machinist’s Mate, First Class and was honorably discharged in 1947. After World War II, he graduated from the University of Georgia, Atlanta Division, with a business degree in Accounting. He worked as an accountant and business manager for the State of Georgia.
He is survived by his sister Virginia Bell Hamrick, his son Douglas Carter Bell (Susan), his daughter Joyceann Bell Fausone (Rick), his grandchildren Douglas Carter Bell, Jr., Marshall Turner Bell, Lucy Elba Bell, Benjamin Marshall Straub, Carter Johnson Straub, and his great grandchildren Douglas Carter Bell III and Amias de Brito Straub. Harold was a member of Haygood Memorial United Methodist Church for over fifty years and was active in The Fellowship Class. He was the longtime treasurer of his Sunday school class and assistant Treasurer of the church.
