Born on February 21, 1982, in Florissant, MO, Marci was lovingly adopted by her parents,
Freddie B. & Winifred S. Coleman, on June 1, 1982, joining her older brother, Marcus Jari
Coleman and making them a happy family of 4.
Her dad, who lovingly called her “Marcola,” preceded her in death. Her dear cat, Egypt Nile,
was put to rest on March 5, 2024. Although Marci didn't have children, she often joked about
following in her parents' footsteps by getting a baby from Walgreens, a joke her mother would
correct and make her laugh by saying: “I got you from Walmart.”
Marci graduated in 2000 from Hazelwood Central High School in Hazelwood, MO. Next, she
attended The University of Missouri-Columbia. During her first year she began to have health
issues. However, in an effort to always find the silver lining, she often expressed gratitude that
her big brother was at the same university to help her when she needed. She would rave about
him and his supportive fraternity brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and how they
would always come by the hospital to visit and check on her. After a year and a half, she returned
to St. Louis and enrolled at Florissant Valley Community College. Frequently, Marci shared how
thankful she was that her parents encouraged her to continue her education despite her plan to sit
out for a year. After earning her associate's degree, she went to Murray State in Murray, KY,
graduating in May 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, an accomplishment for
which she was very proud.
She began her career at Dillard’s as a manager in the Cosmetic Department, then worked as a
Pharmacy Technician at Express Scripts. For over 15 years, she contributed her skills to
Amazon.com in the Quality Assurance Department.
Inspired by her brother’s move to Atlanta in 2008, Marci decided it was time for her own
adventure. On an evening in early in 2009, she packed her car and announced she was moving to
Dallas the next morning. In true and excited Marci fashion, she insisted that “we” (her dad and
mom) needed to move her out of her apartment by the weekend! Despite her father’s attempts to
convince her otherwise, she left for Dallas. She called him many times during the trip for advice
on stops, gas and how much of it to put in the tank. Her father was worried until she safely
arrived, and she spent six exciting years in Dallas before moving to Atlanta in November 2015.
Marci was a beautiful soul who loved her family. She enjoyed having long calls with her mom,
talking about everything and nothing at the same time. She took great pride in being the little
sister of her big brother, Marcus. Being a niece, auntie, and cousin brought her great joy. She will
be missed greatly, always.
Marci leaves behind her mother, Winifred S. Coleman; her brother, Marcus Jari (Niccole)
Coleman of Powder Springs, GA; three lovely nieces, Destiny Taylor; Jadyn (Paul) Bannerman;
and Brooklyn Coleman; a great-nephew, Kaisen Taylor; and Jaivon McDaniel. She is also
survived by seven aunts: Edith (James) Coleman of Douglasville, GA; Brunette Paul of
McDonough, GA; Broncile Deer of Brewton, AL; Joyce Paul of McDonough, GA; Doreen
Watson of Brewton, AL; Anna (Jewel) Wafford of St. Louis, MO; and Alice Hardin of St. Louis,
MO. Additionally, she had three uncles: James Coleman of Douglasville, GA; and James A.
(Dolmecia) Paul of Santa Clarita, CA. Marci is fondly remembered by her cousin/sister, Stacey
(Marvin) Pyles of Mableton, GA, and cousin/brother, Dr. James F. (Raquel) Coleman, Jr. of
Santa Monica, CA, along with many cousins and a special person in her life, Conrad Pitts.
