

Mrs. Whitfield was a lifelong resident of the Marietta area. She was a member of Marietta First Baptist where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and as a member of the Library staff. Mary Jean was a founding member of the Anne Hathaway Garden Club. She retired from The Marietta Federal Bank.
Mary Jean was preceded in death by her husbands; Howard Adair and Tom Whitfield; her parents: Jesse and Mary Upshaw; siblings: Elizabeth Townsend, Petty, James and Jakie Upshaw, and nephew, Mal Upshaw.
Surviving are nieces: Melanie, Mary Louise, and Judy Upshaw, and Harriette Davis; nephews Bobby and Eddie Townsend; in-laws, Florence Jackson and Sam Whitfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their children from the Upshaw, Whitfield and Adair families.
A memorial service will be held at the Marietta First Baptist Church Chapel on Saturday, January 25th, at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Dr. Brian Upshaw, Dr. Bryan Whitfield,
Dr. Bill Ross and Rev. Dean Hunter. A graveside service will be 1:00 pm Saturday at Kennesaw Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Marietta First Baptist Church building or library fund. Family will receive friends in the chapel parlor following the memorial service.
