

The funeral for Bernard O. ( Brock ) Brockenbrough of Martinsville who died Saturday September 3, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville with Reverend Ken Cleveland officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Collins-McKee-Stone in Martinsville.
He was born June 16, 1918 in Scottsville, Virginia to Bernard J. and Myrtle Orr Brockenbrough. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann Page Brockenbrough; two sisters Helen B. Pohlig and Marjorie B. Jones; and a brother Jack Brockenbrough.
He was a 1936 graduate of Perry McClure High School in Buena Vista VA
and began work for E. I. DuPont in 1936 in Seaford Del. In 1940 he started construction of the Martinsville Plant and also worked at DuPont plants in Louisville Ky., Clinton Iowa, and Waynesboro VA. He returned to Martinsville in 1948 where he retired in 1982 after 46 years of service.
A veteran of WW II he served in the US Navy aboard a PT boat in the Philippians. He was a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge, Chatham Heights Baptist Church and attended Stanleytown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a son B. Page Brockenbrough and wife Julie and a
daughter Carol Ann B. Melton and husband A.J. all of Martinsville;
two sisters, Margaret B. Rogers of Shipman VA.; Louise B. McMinn of Nashville TN; two brothers Thomas W. Brockenbrough of Newark DE, Roger L. Brockenbrough of Pittsburg PA; four grandchildren Marie B. Loftin and husband Jeff of Mooresville NC; Ryan Brockenbrough of Martinsville, Whitney Ann Melton of Martinsville; Carrie B. Jones of Critz; one great-grandson Jacob Loftin and special care giver Christine Venable
