Estelle S McGuire

Estelle Simpson McGuire, age 75, of Axton, died Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Duke University Hospital.She was born May 20, 1940 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia to John Coleman Simpson and Bertha Taylor Walker Simpson, who both preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers: Carroll Simpson, Marvin Simpson and Arnold Simpson.

She worked in the cafeteria in The Henry County School System for 15 years. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband: James Morris McGuire, Sr. of the home; two sons: James “Jimmy” McGuire, Jr. and his wife, Retha of Axton and David McGuire and his wife, Tonya of Bassett; a sister: Betty Lou Simpson of Danville; a brother: John “J.T.” Simpson and his wife, Janice of Callands; two granddaughters: Virginia “Ginny” Haynes of Axton, Danielle McGuire of Bassett; and two step granddaughters: Amanda McGuire of Bassett, and Leigh Ann McGuire of Bassett and two great grandchildren: Ayden and Natalie of Axton.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Axton.

The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Jordan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
