Fannie S. McCollum

Fannie (Jackie) Simpson McCollum, 93, of Martinsville and formerly of Fieldale, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at Golden Living Center where she was a resident. She was born in North Carolina on September 14, 1918 to William Jackerson Simpson and Allie Lou Horton Simpson. She was employed by Fieldcrest Mills for several years and retired from Fieldale Grocery.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Albright McCollum; four sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are three daughters, Sallie Lou Ashburn of Axton. Eunice Gwendolyn Wingfield of Roanoke and Karen Lynn McCollum of Reidsville, NC; one son, William D. (Mike) McCollum of Martinsville; six grandchildren, Bobby Dwayne Ashburn, Cathy M. Harris, Kimberly Whiteley, Derek Roberson, Eric Roberson, and Angela Carr; nine great-grandchildren, Daniel Roberson, Marlon Whiteley, Jr., Justin Covey, Trey Whiteley, Sierra Carr, Alyssa Roberson, Brian Harris, Allison H. Welch and Caitlin Harris; two great-great-grandchildren, Cameran Welch and Skyline Roberson and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, January 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at McKee-Stone Funeral Home with Minister Lawrence Harris officiating.

Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Martinsville.
