Henry P. Palmer, 86, of Collinsville passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Pittsylvania County on December 3, 1931to the late Luke P. Palmer and Adell Gauldin Palmer.
He is survived by his sister, Joanne P. Corns and her husband Earl Corns of Martinsville; nephews, Michael Corns and wife Kriste of Halethorpe, MD; Dr. Stephen Corns and wife Akiko of Knoxville, TN; four great nieces, Julia, Naomi, Ellie, and Emma Corns, along with numerous cousins.
Mr. Palmer attended Martinsville City Schools and served in the Air Force during the Korean War for four years, and was discharged as S/Sgt. He then worked for Dupont for 33 years, retiring early due to his health. Henry was known around town as the “candy man”, cheerfully giving out candy to everyone, especially the children. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching all sports, loved animals and birds, especially in his later years.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at McKee Stone Funeral Home. An 11:00 a.m. graveside service with military honor guard services will be held at Roselawn Burial Park following the visitation. The family will also receive friends at other times at the home of Joanne and Earl Corns.
The family expresses its sincere appreciation to the staff at Blue Ridge Health and Rehab for the care and kindness given to Mr. Palmer during this past year.
