Josephine (Jo) Baron DeShazo

Josephine (Jo) Baron DeShazo, 91, of Spencer, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville. She was born in Raleigh County (Eunice) West Virginia, November 6, 1922 to Joe and Ella Barnard Baron. She was a graduate of Spencer-Penn High School and attended Mary Washington College. Jo was bookkeeper and buyer for C. W. Holt Company for 40 years and after retirement, was Secretary/Treasurer for DeShazo Oil Company until she was 90. She was a long-time member of Old Well Christian Church and Christian Women’s Fellowship.

Jo was well known and highly respected for her hard work ethic, along with her caring, sweet and humble personality. She was very devoted to her family and was a great mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Dalton DeShazo, Jr. and her sister, Vera B. Remsburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Julie DeShazo of Martinsville and Helen Jo DeShazo of Spencer; two sons, Thomas Dalton DeShazo, III and Charles Barnard DeShazo, both of Spencer; one granddaughter, Hunter Elizabeth DeShazo of Martinsville; three nieces, Marty DeShazo of Hendersonville, NC, Zan Pelkey and husband, George of Spring, Texas, Patricia Foust and husband, Lonnie of Greensboro, NC.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway with the Rev. Ron Hennis officiating.

Friends may call at the homes of Julie DeShazo in Martinsville and Tommy DeShazo in Spencer.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
