ADKINS, Lorna Garrett, of Ridgeway passed away at her daughter’s home in Richmond, VA. and joined her Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 1, 2018. She was born in Thomaston, Georgia and raised in Eden (Draper section) NC. She graduated as Salutatorian of Draper High School in 1949 and a 1953 graduate of UNC-G (Woman’s College) with a degree in Home Economics. The majority of her career was over 30 years as a teacher for Henry County Schools at Ridgeway Elementary School. While teaching, she was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of Piedmont Arts and Piedmont Guild. She attended Ridgeway United Methodist Church for many years and served in multiple capacities including Pastor Parish Relations Committee and as a Sunday School Teacher. Most recently she attended Martinsville’s First United Methodist Church. Upon the death of her husband in 2004, she was asked to fill his seat for the Town Council of Ridgeway. Subsequently she was elected to the Town Council numerous times and served until her death. She was instrumental in the display of the Town of Ridgeway seasonal banners. She felt Ridgeway was the best town in the whole world and was proud to be an American. A life-long animal lover, any cat was fortunate to live in her house and she dearly loved each one of them, especially Ginger. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and high school sweetheart Caleb W. (“Ace”) Adkins, as well as by her parents and her two brothers. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Lynn Moreau and husband John of Richmond, grandchildren Lee, Scott (Vickylee) and Drew (Stacey), great-grandchildren Barnes, Caleb, Stephen, Lydia, Katie, Brodie, Josie and Emily Moreau. She is also survived by devoted and special friends that she loved as family: Ed and Shirley Page and James J. “JJ” Adkins and their families. She was appreciative of her good neighbors Mike and Wendy Arendal, her dear friend Beverly Davis, and “adopted daughter” Kathie Scarborough. Special thanks to wonderful Richmond caregivers Theresa, Mary, Bonnie, Candice, Melodie and Francine and Mary and Du with Bon Secours Hospice. Visitation will be held at McKee-Stone Funeral Services on Friday, July 6, 2018, from 3 to 5 pm. Burial and services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Ridgeway Ruritan Club, PO Box 78, Ridgeway, VA 24148 or the Pregnancy Care Center of Martinsville and Henry County, 314 Fairy Street, Martinsville, VA 24112. Arrangements are by McKee-Stone Funeral Services in Martinsville.
