

Margaret Minter Turner Hotchkiss, 96, of 300 King’s Way Road, Martinsville died January 9, 2013, at King’s Grant. She was born in Axton, December 2, 1916 to the late George Cabell Turner and the late Ruby Minter Turner. Margaret was a graduate of Axton High School and James Madison University and earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She devoted forty three years to public education, having taught school in Manassas, Front Royal, Virginia and in Miami Beach, Florida.
In 1952, she returned to Martinsville where she served as a classroom teacher, Elementary School Principal at North Martinsville and Assistant Principal at Albert Harris Middle School and Supervisor of Elementary Education and retired in 1981 after serving twenty-nine years with the Martinsville School System. She was a former member of Kappa Delta Pi and Delta Kappa Gamma, Education Honorary Society, a life member of National Education Association, Virginia Retired Teachers Association, charter member of Martinsville Altrusa Club and a member of First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville. Margaret was a resident of King’s Grant Community since 1993, transferring from Sunnyside, Harrisonburg where she had been since 1991
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George Graves Hotchkiss, March 21, 2000
Surviving are several cousins.
A memorial service will be held 10:00a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the King’s Grant Victory Chapel with Chaplin Paul Johnson officiating and a small reception will follow the service. A graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. in Roselawn Burial Park.
