Thelma Gardner Kilby

Thelma Gardner Kilby, 91, passed away Thursday, June 21, 2018 at her home in Martinsville, VA. She was born August 25, 1926 in Martinsville. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Wiley Gardner; and one son, Morris J. Kilby. She was a member of Chatham Heights Christian Church for 52 years where she was known as the sweet lady with a beautiful smile. Many friends remember her for her great talent and dedication to pleasing others with her gift of “friendship cakes”. Her greatest pleasure was cooking and doing for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to all of them. We will all miss her laughter and kind heart! She retired from Pannill Knitting Company. She is survived by her daughters, Joy Haley and husband, Mike of Martinsville and Myrtle Robertson and her husband, CJ of Martinsville; grandson, Tim Robertson and great grandchildren, Olivia Robertson and Alan Robertson of Martinsville; grandson, Nick Stone and his wife, Astrid and great grandchildren, Athena, Julius and Galileo of Jacksonville, N.C.; one sister, Mary Gammons of Martinsville. The family extends many thanks to her caregivers who were with her at the end, her niece, Janet Townley, Kathy Carter and Liz Hairston, as well as much gratitude to hospice for all their kind assistance given to her and her family. A private memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Chatham Heights Christian Church and will be officiated by Reverend Alan Vaughn.
