

William Edwin “Ed” Wickline, 95 of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully April 4, 2010, at Henrico Doctor's Hospital after a brave battle with multiple illnesses. He was born in Sinks Grove, West Virginia on November 15, 1914. He was the last surviving child of the late Harlan and Laura Canterbury Wickline. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Stultz Wickline, and two sisters, Evelyn W. Lemons and Virginia W. Snead.
Mr. Wickline received a degree from Nashville Auto Diesel School in Auto Mechanics. After graduation, he moved to Martinsville and began working at the former Burroughs and White Chevrolet as the Service and General Manager. When the opportunity arose, he went into partnership with his cousin and opened Wickline's Garage in Oak Level, Virginia, until his retirement in 1981.
On May 16,1942, he was called into active duty and served three years during WW II. As a Supply Sergeant, in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Campaign, he received a medal with 2 bronze service stars and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon.
Mr. Wickline was a former member of First Baptist Church of Martinsville, and of Class 19 Sunday School Class. In 1973, he became a member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville, where he was a deacon, a choir member, and served on and chaired many committees. After moving to Richmond, at the age of 92, he joined Derbyshire Baptist Church and was actively involved in many activities including The Joy Club, The Golden Tones, Wednesday night dinners and his special Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his daughter Sally Wickline Canar and her husband George M. Canar Sr.; his grandsons, Cleveland Canar and his wife Elizabeth West Canar, and George Michael Canar Jr., all of Richmond, Virginia. A brother, Harold Wickline resides in Charlotte, NC.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Collinsville. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends between 9:45 and 10:45 prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Benevolence Fund at First Baptist Church of Collinsville, 3339 Virginia Avenue, Collinsville, VA 24078, a committee Mr. Wickline chaired for many years.
