

William “Bill” James Wright, Sr., 89, of Ridgeway, died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 21, 1925 in Lanett, Alabama, son of Lewis Handley Wright and Ruth Bishop Wright. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and was employed by DuPont for 35 years as
Electrical Engineer. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville, where he served as Chairman of Deacons, as Sunday School Teacher and on various committees. He served as counselor for Contact, a crisis management ministry.
Bill’s interests included fishing, woodworking, traveling and above all, family.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Gentry Wright of the home; two daughters, Brenda Wright Eldergill & husband, Colin, of Richmond and Nancy Wright Arnold & husband, Phillip, of Martinsville; one son, William James “Jim” Wright, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Alice Culpepper of Macon, GA; one brother, George Wright of Atlanta, GA and three grandchildren, Helen McClary ”Clary” Jackson of Reston, Cameron Minge Jackson of Richmond and Rebecca Leigh Arnold of Bristol, VA
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 27, 2014 at First Baptist Church at 10:00AM for one hour prior to the Memorial Sevice at 11:00AM, with Rev. John Fulcher and Rev. Bryant Wright officiating.
