Lucy Ann (Newell) Madden passed away on November 11, 2014, after a long struggle with dementia. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Paul R. Madden, daughter Carol Lynn (Madden) and husband Marty Clark; her son Mark B. Madden and his wife Debi; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
An unpretentious, down-to-earth person throughout her life, Lucy believed that family mattered above most of the other concerns of this world and she acted accordingly. Relatives and friends alike were treated in a kind, gentle manner…. tempered with a touch of good humor and a dash of mischief.
Though Lucy was born in Detroit, she always considered herself a native of Rochester, MI, where she and her brother Fred lived with her parents Ken and Mabel Newell. Her schooling K through 12 was all done in Rochester.
With friends aplenty, Lucy loved to take part in many of the activities offered during her school years. She was an active Girl Scout, a proficient tennis player, and an energetic cheerleader. Upon her graduation from high school she took a job in a local manufacturing business which she held until shortly after her marriage to Paul Madden in 1954. Their children, Carol and Mark, were born at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac and raised in Rochester, Oxford, Dearborn Heights, Westland and Plymouth, all in Michigan.
When their children were grown and on their own, The Maddens moved to Naples, Florida where they stayed for a few years before settling in Mason, MI.
Lucy loved music and dancing and traveling and wove those into the fabric of her eighty-one-year life. She will be sorely missed by her loving family and by the myriad of friends she made during her lifetime.
In lieu of flowers the Madden Family suggests a donation be made to: Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, St. Lawrence Campus, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, Michigan 48909. On-line condolences may be shared with the family at www.grbdmason.com
