The family moved to Lansing when Luella was a young girl but even into adulthood would love to talk about the family Sunday drives to Portland to visit cousins and grandparents.
Luella graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1943. After graduating she worked for Dr. Peters as a receptionist in his dental practice in the then Michigan National Bank Building.
She met her husband, James Hackney, through her friendship with his sisters. They married on December 29, 1945.
Luella loved children and taught Sunday School to Kindergarten age children for over 40 years. She also worked for the Lansing School District as a teacher’s assistant and in the 1970’s as a baker for the district.
Her faith was very important to Luella. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, first on Ohio St. in north Lansing and then on Wood Rd. After the death of her husband in 1988 she moved to Mason and began attending Mason Community Church and was a member there for the remainder of her life.
Luella liked sports, no she loved sports! She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and loved to spend her Saturday afternoons watching U of M football.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Eaton County Care Services for the care given to Luella during her stay.
