Melvyn Robert Swab, Sr. was born on October 12, 1934 in Greene, Iowa and went to be with the Lord, August 28, 2014 at the age of 79. Mel lived at the Marquette Senior Living Center in East Lansing for the past five years and in that time all those who came to know him truly loved him. The love he showed his family reflected his faith in God which he passed on to his children. He was always excited to see his grandchildren offering a big hug and a dark chocolate. Mel was a Marine Corps veteran and worked many years as a telephone tech for Michigan Bell. In his younger years, Mel enjoyed motocross racing and riding his bike; and spending hours listening to country and gospel music. Mel volunteered at Sparrow hospital and the Red Cross where he traveled the country helping with disaster relief. Melvyn was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Marvel Swab; brother, Merlyn Swab; sister, Evelyn Travis.
