It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” Kranz, who left this world on December 17, 2025, at the age of 73, in his home in Lansing, Michigan. Michael was born on April 17, 1952, to Max Lewis Kranz and Dolores Bell Dunn.
Michael was a graduate of Williamston Public Schools and later attended Eastern Michigan University. His professional journey took him through various positions, including roles at Consumers Energy, Century 21 Real Estate, and the Michigan State Chamber of Commerce.
On June 26, 1987, Michael married the love of his life, Shelley Lynn Baumgras, in Lansing. Together, they built a warm and loving home filled with laughter and cherished memories. Michael was a devoted father to his sons, Christopher Kranz and Alexander Kranz.
Michael’s life was marked by a profound kindness; he had a unique ability to touch the hearts of those around him. He was a man who always lent a helping hand and had a knack for fixing almost anything that was broken. Michael also had a passion for golf, a love he embraced from a young age. His family and friends will remember him as a kind soul, a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who lived with a spirit of generosity and joy.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Shelley Kranz; his son, Alexander (Cara) Kranz; his beautiful granddaughter Azula whom he loved dearly; his siblings, Steve (Cindy) Kranz and Paula (Jerome) Brzezinski; his father-in-law Henry Baumgras; his sister-in-law Lisa (Jack) Downer; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Christopher James Kranz, who passed on July 1, 1997.
A visitation will be held at Gorsline Runciman Ball Dunn Chapel in Mason on December 23, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. A gathering at his good friend’s home, Jay and Sue Hill will be held afterward to celebrate his life.
Michael's battle with Sarcoma was met with great courage, and the family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and nursing aides at McLaren Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion during a difficult time.
