

Valerie Margaret Masterson Leonard, born on January 27, 1983, began the next stage of her life journey on January 12, 2016. She graduated from DeWitt High school in 2001, going on to obtain her Associates Degree in Graphic Arts from Lansing Community College in 2005. She met Jeremy Franklin Leonard at Mount Hope Church in Lansing where they were very involved in the Music and Media department. Val and Jeremy married on October 15, 2005. Valerie battled Cystic Fibrosis since birth, and in 2010 received a double lung transplant. In December 2015, the family was involved in a severe automobile accident. Valerie graduated to heaven due to complications from Cystic Fibrosis and the accident.
She is survived by her husband, Jeremy Leonard; parents Marty and Laura Masterson; brother, Jason Masterson; grandfather, Gordon Masterson; and grandmother, Eleanor Messner. She was welcomed in heaven by her brother, Daniel Masterson; grandfather, Roland Messner; and grandmother, Doris Masterson. Val will be forever remembered for her quick wit, drawing and designing talents, piano, flute and vocal skills. Her faith sustained her throughout her life, and it will continue to inspire all those who have known her.
Visitation will be held January 21, 2016 at The Catholic Community of St. Jude in DeWitt from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm. Funeral service will take place January 22, 2016 at Mount Hope Church in Lansing at 11 am with visitation one hour prior.
