I always remember Aunt Emmy with a white uniform and a hair net from when she worked at the May Co.

She used to take care of me when I lived upstairs and sometimes I'd just venture down there to visit if I was bored. I guess she had enough of my brat-ness, i.e. when I didn't get my way, I'd run upstairs and tell my dad. One day she locked the door on me. I told my father, "She did it to me again!" She always recalled this with laughter. 

She grew beautiful roses and I used to snap the heads off. She yelled at me to just ask and she would cut some for me. I don't know why I didn't!

If you did something wrong she did not hold back. She let you have it! Ray said if she didn't care, she'd have nothing to do with you. And that was true. She yelled at you because she wanted you to do better. Her voice would get high and shrill and sometimes painful! It was sometimes comical, and I still can hear it. There were times when I felt ashamed when she yelled at me and there were many times in my life when she did yell at me. But thank God we came to a place when she was proud of me and that meant the world to me.

She was a great cook! I loved eating anything she made. Except the Carnation instant milk- that was not so great. I called her up not too long ago to ask her about cabbage rolls.

She had the best bosom. I cried on that bosom a few times. She held me tight when I was 8 and my Grandpa died. My father wouldn't let me in the room at the Nursing home and we sat outside the room and she held me as I wept.

She pulled one of my teeth out- I think it was the first loose one I had. It was dangling by a thread and I would let no one touch it. She said, "Let me see it" and I did. I didn't feel a thing and she held it behind her back. When I went to wiggle it- it was gone! She laughed and brought her hand out from behind her and showed it to me. I was so mad!

I have many little private moments that I shared with her and that only she and I will know about. Mostly "girl" stuff. She gave me lots of advice. When I was younger it was unsolicited advice, and as I became older I'd call her up just to ask her something, anything, so I knew what I thought to do was the right thing.

As we grew older we talked more and more about family, my children and the weather. She rarely yelled at me any more. She cared very much for children, and she always reminded me, "They grow up too too fast"...

When my father died I called her and Uncle Bob very early in the morning and the three of us cried and cried on the phone. I felt like she was there again with me to hold me as I wept into her great comforting bosom.

At my fathers' funeral she scolded me to sit down (I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with Russell). We shared a lot of laughs and some tears over that time. She was a great comfort to me. And she died on my dad's birthday! 10 years after Auntie Ruth died! I know they are all together cooking up a storm!

It was my honor and privilege to hold her left arm and escort her in to see Uncle Bob when he was laid out. She nearly collapsed at the sight of him, but being such a strong lady, she marched on to get to the casket, and I held her hand the whole time. I felt so blessed to be able to do that for her.

I will miss our chats and her advice. And her bosom lol

She was a great role model to me. I hope I can live up to it.

May the perpetual light shine down upon everyone. Emmy was a wonderful woman. Always loving and givng to others. She loved her family unconditionally.Emmy was an excellent cook. She will live in my heart forever and I will cherish the times that I spent with her. Take knowing that now you have a very special guardian angel watching over everyone.

Sorry to hear of the passing of aunt Emmy. The love she showed her family will help us carry on.

Dear Emmy, I am going to miss you so much.  You were an amazing woman - a wonderfull wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and the very best mother in law in the world.  You adored your family and always put them first.  I treasure all of those Sunday dinners on Kipling, and even after all these years I still cannot get my sauce anywhere near as good as yours. I will always be greatful to you and Papa for being so kind to the kids and taking them on all those great trips when they were growing up.  I am so happy we remained close all these years.  I will  miss you forever.  Give Papa a hug for me.  I love you.
