

Allan Rosenbaum, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy Rosenbaum, and daughters Michelle Ellis, Amy Charley and sons-in-laws Sheldon Ellis and Mark Charley and 3 wonderful grandsons, Michael, Noah and Parker.
Allan grew up in Miami, FL. He attended Miami Edison High School, followed by the University of Miami. He earned 2 master’s degrees, the first from Southern Illinois University and then University of California – Berkley. His PHD in Political Science is from the University of Chicago. His career has included teaching at the University of Wisconsin, University of Connecticut and University of Maryland Baltimore County. As well as working for the Carter Administration. Allan spent the last three decades at FIU.
His career can only be described as very distinguished, as an outstanding scholar, mentor and as a highly effective advocate for major governmental reform initiatives designed to promote democratic institution building efforts, both in the US and in many other parts of the world. During his time at FIU, Dr. Rosenbaum was the recipient of various individual university-wide awards in the areas of Research, Faculty Engagement, and Service. Most notably, he was the recipient of the University's highest annual faculty recognition, the FIU Worlds Ahead faculty award that annually recognizes the University's most outstanding faculty member.
His work has also led to invitations for him to serve as Distinguished Visiting Scholar at various international institutions as well as a keynote speaker for plenary session presentations at major UN, government sponsored, practitioner organized and academic conferences all over the world. Allan has published on state and local government, intergovernmental relations, and federal government policy in the United States, and he has written extensively on legislative relations, national and subnational government, administrative and political reform in many countries of Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, China and Africa. His research draws heavily upon his considerable work on behalf of the US government, as well as for the United Nations, the World Bank, and other international agencies, in the building and strengthening of democratic institutions.
He will be remembered for his extraordinary intellect, commitment to social justice, equality, democratic governance and the profound impact he had on institutions and individuals.
A celebration of life for Allan will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Temple Israel of Greater Miami, 137 NE 19th St, Miami, Florida 33132.
