Dorothy Goldman Spirer, age 96, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, surrounded by her family. Dorothy was born February 12, 1926, in Brooklyn, New York. She lived most of her life in Harrison, New York, splitting her time between NY and Palm Beach, FL. In 2003, Dorothy and Bernie made Coral Gables their full-time home.
Dorothy met the love of her life, Bernard, at Grossinger’s in the Catskills. They were married in 1948. She was predeceased by Bernard and missed him desperately.
After high school, Dorothy attended Mount Sinai School of Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. Her career was cut short by the birth of Richard. Before losing her eyesight, Dorothy was an avid reader and master bridge player. She traveled the world and lived life to the fullest, but family always came first. Always able to adapt, Dorothy switched to audiobooks and cruises with her family.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Richard (Mollie) and Jeffrey (Garrett), grandchildren Adam (Jessica) and Mindy. She was blessed with five great grandchildren: Bradley and Lily Spirer, Allison, Benjamin, and Daniella Feintuch. She will be deeply missed.
We are so grateful to Dorothy’s caregivers for the last year. Celine, Martine, Mimose, and Tamara; God Bless You! We could not have made it without the loving care, friendship and support you gave our mom.
A family service was held on September 15. Donations can be made to the Jewish Braille Institute (JBI) International.
