Today we celebrate the life of Eric Rosenbush, who was a hero in his own right. Eric Rosenbush beloved Uncle, and friend to many, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Miami Beach, Thursday morning, November 14, 2013. He was 102 years old. He was born on January 4, 1911 in Frankfort am Main, Germany, the son of Max and Frieda Greisheimer Rosenbusch. There were four siblings, his twin brother Fred, older brother Al, two sisters, Alice and Linni, all of which have predeceased him. He was a widower, formerly married to Irma Plaut for 58 years. In his lineage were famous Rabbi's one of which was the late Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. Mr. Rosenbush is survived by his niece Susan Silva Nikirk who resides in Salem, CT with her husband Gerald and their daughter Autumn Victoria.
Mr. Rosenbush was in the 102nd Infantry Division of the United States Army, and fought in World War II. He became a Sergeant and was trained to do intelligence work, and interrogation of prisoners of war for the 102nd Signal Company. He was later transferred to the 1st Infantry Division of the United States Army, also known as the Bloody One. This is the oldest and original division of the United States Army. He received many medals during his service. Mr. Rosenbush was instrumental in getting his parents and two sisters out of Germany in 1937 with the help of his Aunt Sophie in Boston. Eric's niece Susan will always be grateful to Uncle Eric for helping her mother get out of Germany without which she would not have been born.
Eric owned a famous supper club in New York City called "Cafe Grinzing.". He loved life, people, and entertaining. He will be missed by family and friends; and always remembered in our hearts.
The funeral service is being held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Riverside-Gordon Memorial Chapel, 5900 SW 77 Avenue, Miami.. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 5505 NW 3rd St., Miami.
