Frances “ Fran “ Storper
July 4, 1944 - August 30, 2024
Miami, Florida - Frances “Fran” Storper, loving wife, mother, grammy, systems engineer, social worker, and philanthropist died Aug. 30th in Miami, Florida. She was 80 years old.
She met the love of her life, Henry, in freshman calculus class at New York University, when they were both 17 years old. They spent the next 63 years together, 58 as a married couple. Their partnership was a model of joy and enthusiasm that only grew stronger throughout their time together.
Born in Forest Hills, New York, Fran was raised by her brilliant father Sol, who waited tables while attending Harvard Law school, and her wonderful mother, Anne, who famously asked “So soon?” when Henry proposed after dating Fran throughout college.
Fran had many talents. She excelled at math and problem solving, which led to her becoming one of the first female systems engineers in the world at IBM after college. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in social work, and to manage the office of Henry’s psychiatric medical practice. She had a talent for giving good advice, and perfect strangers would often confide in Fran even after meeting her for only a few minutes. She also enjoyed playing Bridge, partnered with Henry, whether it was with dear old friends or high level tournaments, earning Master points.
Fran always wanted a large family, and her wish was granted with four children, and many extended family members through marriage and close friendship. It is safe to say that Fran was the heart of her extended family, and she made sure to bring everyone together for summer trips, exciting adventure activities, and holiday dinners, where the amount of food was known to “ slightly” exceed the expected guests. She also was instrumental in forming H.A.L.O, a charity that saved the lives of children in Haiti by providing an innovative form of nourishment. Her warmth and generosity of spirit will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband Henry; son Scott (Claudia), daughter Beth Joseph (Seth), son David (Dana), and son Andrew (Daiana); grandchildren Samantha (Lex), Abby, Alejandro, Ben, Graham, Amelia, Oliver, Daniel, Annabelle, and Bethannie, as well as brother Arnie and many others who loved her.
Fran's life will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Temple Beth Am,5950 N Kendall Dr, Pinecrest, FL 33156 followed by a graveside service at Mount Nebo Kendall Memorial Gardens, 5900 SW 77th Ave, Miami, FL 33143.
