Miss you on the golf course, Gil! Rest in  Peace!

Amy and I are very sorry to hear about Gil’s passing. It was always Ellie and Gil or Gil and Ellie...hardly ever saw them apart. Talk about true love, they lived it for as long as I’ve known them. Together they set an example of living a good life!
I did get to play golf with Gil a couple of times. We talked a lot and he had many stories to tell. He was not a bad golfer either and we had good times!
Gil, you will be missed but not forgotten. Rest In Peace!

Dear Ellie and family - 
I was so very sorry to hear of Gil’s passing.  It was just a few months ago that I spoke with Gil after my own husband’s death.  I always enjoyed the times we were able to speak at more pleasant occasions and we shared many happy memories. Like times spent at our family’s summer cottage in Union Pier, Michigan. It was always exciting when our cousins from Metuchen, New Jersey came to stay with us. In more recent years we would reminisce on the phone about Gil’s summer teenage romances on the beach in Michigan. 

And Laury and I were always so happy when furniture conventions brought Gil and Howard to Chicago.  When they were in town for one convention he and Howard were even surprise guests at my second son’s bris in 1959.

Gil and I enjoyed talking about how great it was to be part of such a large and loving extended family - and how fun it was that the four Levine boys and four Katzman girls were all about the same ages.

I am including a photo from the beach in Union Pier, probably in the early forties. Unfortunately I’m not in the picture!  Maybe I was taking it.  

Gil was always one of my favorite cousins. His warmth and charming personality only add to the pain of losing him.  May all of our many fond memories of him always be a blessing.

Heartfelt condolences to the Levine family.   The last of the Levine brothers legacy has passed.  
For just a few years,  “silver top” was uncle Gil to me.   As I saw him & Ellie over the years at various restaurants, he always greeted me with a smile and retold many of his great stories. 
RIP Gil, I’m sure Howard & David & Yale are happy to be with you again.

So how lucky am I to have had a grandfather in my life until you were 90 years old. 

I am so happy I had amazing memories with you and Mimi throughout the years. From our adventurous road trips to the Grand Canyon, Red Rocks, all the Las Vegas shows and buffets, the Madonna Inn, and Medieval Times, to our love for the “U, Tranquility Bay in Marathon, and so many lobster dinners with a lot of Malbec wine. I will always cherish these memories. 

Thank you for some of the most fun, adventurous, hilarious and delicious memories but most importantly, thank you for bringing my dad into this world. For that, I am forever grateful and feel like the luckiest girl in the world. 

Rest peacefully Pops. I know you’re having so much fun with all of your brothers again, drinking scotch and eating all the chocolate ice cream you want. We will continue to take good care of your high school sweetheart, Mimi, always.

PS. And don’t worry, your secret is safe with me...those young chicks in the Pinecrest gym will never know you bumped up the weight on the machines when you were done. ;)

We are so sorry about Gil’s passing. We were in a Havurah together for many years and belonged to Bet Breira together. Gil also was in a group of men that used to meet for lunch once a week and with the pandemic the men have been doing a Zoom once a week. Gil will be missed by us. May he Rest In Peace.

We will remember Gil
We met a Saturday morning in a Torah class, this couple was sitting on our right, and were very friendly from the first minute we said Good Shabbes. We quickly acknowledge they were welcoming and fun.
Along the years we enjoyed their stories, and lively outlook of life, how much they loved each other and many accomplishments they made in life, together and each by their own.
We will always remember Gil’s laughter, and smile, his openness and we will keep in our minds the lessons he taught us every time we met, LOVE and enjoy LIFE!!!

The time has come for Gil to take a new trip, probably a new adventure, and we would like to guess that it will be a great one, he will spread those wings that appreciated every minute on earth and replicate in whatever the experience is after life.
We want to celebrate a life well lived and keep in our hearts the memories of learning and friendship spent together.
To his family, our deepest condolences and hope that the good memories will make this difficult time a bit easier.

Gil  had a keen sense of humor, a story to share and a song to sing.  He was a kind and gentle soul.  He  enjoyed getting together  with our Havurah and always had a joke to share.  So sorry for your loss. May his memory be a blessing to all .

I'll always treasure memories of you singing. In the choir at Bet Breira , during chavurah gatherings, or just a quick serenade to your beloved Ellie.

For as far back as I can remember, Uncle Gil was a big part of my life.  Howard and Gil were part of the four “Levine Brothers,” but also business partners and best friends. Our families were close; Delores and Ellie were more like sisters than “in-laws.” We shared 
BBQ’s, riding ponies at Dressel’s Farm, family vacations (some trips swapping a cousin for a different gender). Debbie and I and Jerry and Randy grew up together. 
When I introduced Jay to Gil and Ellie, he was welcomed into the family. Gil loved that Jay was a golfer and loved to eat. He always had a beer ready for him.
He was a caring brother to dad, especially in his last years. They laughed, argued and shared many stories and memories. 
Uncle Gil was always happy when I called.  It’s hard to believe that generation of the Levine Brothers are now all gone.
Rest well Uncle Gil. I’m sure dad is waiting for you.

What can I say about Uncle Gil?  From birth, Uncle Gil was a fixture in my life.  He and my Papa gifted me with a strong passion for Hurricanes and Dolphins football, a love for Jewish deli, and a strong sense of nostalgia for cars, amateur radios, and "old Miami."  Uncle Gil was always the life of the party - an enthusiastic dancer and talker.  As a child, I always looked forward to our Saturday and Sunday brunches over Roasters and Toasters lox and schmeer and to my outings to the Marlins or Hurricane baseball, basketball, and football games with Uncle Gil, Uncle David, and Papa.  Uncle Gil and Papa had a deep and special relationship - as the middle two brothers, in many ways, they were the closest of the four.  They shared a business, cars, and even children on family vacations.  It was always fun to be part of their sibling banter -  watching my own twin boys (Sam and Jacob) at times reminds me of watching them - I can only imagine my boys becoming alta cockers and debating the merits of the Hurricanes latest coaching change as Gil and Papa did. I wish my children could have gotten to know Uncle Gil  - I have no doubt that Sam and Jacob would have had a very special bond over their shared love of sports and deli and he would have gotten a kick out of Dani.   In many ways, Uncle Gil's passing marks the end of an era -- the last surviving Levine brother and the last male member of "the eight ball" -- Uncle Gil was a tether to my Mimi and Papa and my childhood even years after it  passed.   We will always remember and appreciate how Uncle Gil and Aunt Ellie hosted our engagement party and how they always reminded us about how much we imbibed on that occasion.  And we will always remember and appreciate how Uncle Gil visited and comforted Papa when he was at the end of his life.  We have made a $180 donation to the Hurricane Club in Uncle Gil's honor and  wish we could be with you.  Zikhrono Livrakha.
